Privacy policy

Last updated October 9, 2026

This policy covers this website and the early-access list. The Ambient apps aren't public yet; they'll come with their own privacy policy.

Who's responsible

Nikolai Madlener, a sole proprietorship (Einzelunternehmen) in Austria, runs this website and is responsible for your data here (the controller under the GDPR). Write to nikolai@madlener.io with any question about it.

When you visit

Our host, Vercel, receives what every browser sends with a request: your IP address, the time, the page asked for, and your browser and device type. It needs these to deliver the site and keep it safe from attacks. We don't use them to identify you and don't keep these logs ourselves. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running a secure website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

The site uses no cookies, no ads and no tracking pixels. Its fonts are served from our own domain, so your browser doesn't contact Google or any other font service.

How we count visits

We measure how the site is used with PostHog Cloud EU, whose servers are in Frankfurt, Germany: which pages are viewed, the site you came from, your browser and type of device, and when the page's buttons and the early-access form are used. It works without cookies and stores nothing on your device, so every visit counts as a new one and you can't be recognised across visits. IP addresses are discarded, and we don't record sessions or anything you type. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in knowing how the site is used and improving it (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR); you can object at any time by writing to us.

When you join the early-access list

We store the email address you enter, with Resend, our email provider, and use it for one thing: to write to you about your invite to Ambient. Legal basis: you asked to be on the list (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).

You can leave the list at any time, through the link in any email from us or by writing to us. We delete your address when you leave, or when the early-access list closes.

After you join, your browser remembers that you did, so the form shows its thank-you instead of asking again. It's one entry in your browser's local storage (ambient.waitlist.joined), it holds nothing about you, and it's never sent to us. Clearing this site's data in your browser removes it.

When you email us

We use your address and your message to answer you, and keep them as long as the conversation needs. Legal basis: answering you (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR).

Who else processes your data

Three providers process data for us:

Vercel and Resend are certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, so transfers to them rely on the European Commission's adequacy decision (Art. 45 GDPR). We don't sell your data or share it with anyone else, unless the law requires us to.

Your rights

You can ask us what we store about you, and have it corrected, deleted, restricted or handed to you in a common format (Art. 15 to 20 GDPR). You can object to processing based on our legitimate interest (Art. 21 GDPR). Write to nikolai@madlener.io.

You can also complain to a data protection authority: in Austria the Datenschutzbehörde, or the one where you live or work.

Changes

When the site starts doing something new with data, this page changes first, with a new date at the top.
